K House is a house and studio for an artist that uses recycled materials, including the burned remains of the artist's former log cabin on the site. The charred logs are sawn to double the surface area and used as cladding. The footprint uses an existing concrete slab on the property as well as local stones, wood, mushroom spores, and recycled glass and clothing.
The roof profile lofts between a single and a double pitched roof to collect water at the service-end of the building for use in the bathroom and kitchen. At the front, the eaves extend to cover a porch and are punctured by a void to allow one of the existing trees to penetrate and integrate into the building. Several other trees near the building are considered part of the elevation.
